Let's not ***** categories, iPseudo. If the comment was made knowing that it would offend, but intentionally posted anyway, then yes, that would be a clear ***** of forum rules since the poster knew that her post would "cause discomfort".

The freedom to speak one's mind is a basic human right. If people cannot be mature enough to overlook offensive remarks, or to reply in a respectable manner expressing their disagreement, we're in serious trouble as a society. I still contend that she did not attack any members on these boards, but only expressed a personal preference. If this is too scary for people, wow, we may as well just throw awy all of our guns, sign away all personal freedoms, and tell Big Brother the world is too scary and that we need him to tak the helm and control every aspect of our miserable existences.

I being from the US, was brought up with a different set of beliefs.
One belief is that all speech is protected, even speech that might be uncomfortable to others.
So as a MOD, I tend to take a non Censorship approach.

If a post, causes other members to react, or I am sent PM's to that affect.
I may send the OP a PM, asking them to choose words more carefully.
But I wouldn't censor the post.

We do have a few words we are tasked with watching for.
But mostly just the code of Conduct.

I've been a consumer of Totem's product much longer than 10 years, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand, Didgedrum. If comments are going to censored on these boards, more concrete guidelines need to be set than the vague "causes discomfort" which appears now. All she did was express a personal prejudice. When did this become *****? Censorship is far more offensive to me than opinions I disagree with.

Her comment was deleted, but all of the "***** speech" directed at her in a personal way still sits in the forum. This is hypocrisy. She didn't attack anybody on these boards, but other members criticize and attack her for her preferences. This is hypocrisy of the worst sort. Personally. We're stumbling toward totalitarianism in the West and the idiots are patting themselves on the back for their retractions and apologies, coughing up their freedoms in the process. If a comment does not CLEARLY ***** forum rules, it should not be censored. The rules on what kind of speech is acceptable might be common sense, but they're very poorly defined, not to mention quite open to subjective interpretation.

Each of us when speaking for ourselves. "I find this offensive." is a fair statement. Beyond a simple personal statement there is a mass of uncertainty and potential trouble. The more people who chime in with their own opinions and judgements, the worse things get. There is a point where action by the moderators should be requested, but that's a much much bigger step. In most cases, the best approach after voicing a complaint is to let the subject drop.

What is ***** Speech?
It is MOB rule based on Feelings.

That's why I just started a censorship thread. If we are going to start censoring speech here, we need more solid guidelines than what is posted now. "Causes discomfort" is pretty vague.

I think you are ***** public rights and private rights. You are on a private forum. This is effectively Rex's house and Rex and can have rules about what is said in his house and if you can't abide by that you are banned or censored. I was banned for saying totem pisses me off...w/o warning...and saying that a mod shouldn't attack customers for being frustrated. I'm fine with it...it is within their "rights" to ban me forever if they do not want me in their house. I really didn't care if the post was even deleted or if chic was banned I just wanted mods to address the obvious and admitted racism...something that cannot be abided on a private forum of a company that hires people of all races, ethnicities, and religions.

You cannot slander, you cannot threaten, and private entities have rules that should be moderated...I imagine including statements of dissatisfaction based soley on race. Person said they might get preorder now that the only black girl is all done with cards, and that the only time they buy things involved with black is with their coffee. The fact that they were afraid to even have a black person in their collection is super racist. There certainly are levels of racism beyond this...I am more disgusted by the fact that moderators will warn somebody about nudity in a non-nude thread before they would warn a customer about being racist towards girls that the company is trying to sell. No, but we shouldn't turn a blind eye to it either. If no one ever calls someone on a bad joke, the joker will never know it was a bad joke and is likely to repeat it. This is a difficult decision we each need to make for ourselves. An innocent remark to one person can be deeply offensive to another. On the other hand, some people take offense very easily. There is no simple answer.

A personal example: I'm Jewish. I was born in Brooklyn in 1943. A large part of my extended family died in the Holocaust. Certain jokes about lampshades are not at all funny to me. Some people might see that as kidding around. I can't. Mostly I wouldn't say anything, but it would ***** just the same. To some people that is ancient history and no longer relevant. It isn't ancient to me.

I despise political correctness. I'm happy to occasionally root for the Washington Redskins and hold doors for women. However, I feel we should be aware of how what we say may be interpreted by others. We have as much of an obligation to avoid giving offense as we do to avoid taking offense. This media - messaging - makes it very easy to both give and take offense so we should take extra care. I'm sure we have all seen flame wars brew up over something that seemed very ***** at first.

I must admit I was a little perplexed after reading that post. 'What were you thinking?' was my first thought.

Hear here! Can the PC bullshit. It is a fundamental human right to speak one's mind, even if it's in bad taste or widely held in contempt. Besides, not being sexually attracted to black women doesn't make somebody a racist. Differing ethnicities are marked by physical characteristics that are commonly possessed by most people of that ethnicity. So the person in question just may have an aversion to those physical traits. The KKK comment was in poor taste, but so what? As long as nobody is attacked, or there is no call for violence, there is no need to censor somebody's speech.

I see things going as two ways. Either the company is making money hand over fist with these promotions and the the vocal members on the forum are just a vocal minority or they are trying to ***** long members and drive the product out of business. Seeing a have seen team members bend over backwards to make things right and listen to user input, I really don't see option 2 happening. Giving the opportunity as they provide a wonderful product that keeps me out of shady places where one could get robbed or stabbed, Im for a little faith and seeing where this ship heads.

• totem has great customer service
• customer service does not run marketing nor work with investors.
• totem is following tried and true mmo marketing techniques
• they nearly went bankrupt in 2013
• they needed money from investor for relaunch in 2015-2016
• they have to pay back investors, employees, ceo and improve product
• they have moved to what mmos call the "free to play" mode of the game after initial launch
• a year ago the most fervent customer could only max out at about $36 a month based on 30 cards for 13 credit a piece.
• the new special event and gambling model allows addiction to push the spending ceiling up to $100 a month or more...
• So this is nefarious and greedy but very common in the online gaming industry
• This always ends badly for the company and customers
• casual participants notice a drop in quality and an increase in price...
• The product becomes an increasingly small pool of large participants who have all special event cards and feel great about themselves
• Eventually investors drop out and company goes into maitenance mode.
• I actually to not have a problem with the nefarious techniques except they limit investment into product improvement because profit is not based on quality of product but quality of marketing.
• notice totem didn't tout any improvements for 2019, just the continuation of technology and patterns that are limited and even inferior to their initial launch 3-4 year ago.

You do understand that said poster derided one of the girls before he continued his "jokes" about the kkk. He basically said he wouldn't want a preorder with a woman of color in it, which could have been taken as he just didn't like Boni as a performer, but then the kkk post which makes it clear that it is based solely on race. So a customer is actively criticizing a performer, not on their merits as a performer, but merely on the color of their skin. That is blatant racism. And not sure how it would get back to Boni or other performers but the forum has allowed blatantly racist posters that are critical of performers to stay on the forum for an extended period of time. I can't imagine how this can be good for anyone. Maybe a joke...but I don't think so...there is no reason to criticize Boni in the first place, then make it a race thing, if it wasn't about race.

I now feel compelled to walk back my rant from yesterday a bit. I still don't dig on the concept of "Special Event" cards. My rant was about making collectors go through the Black Friday obstacle course and the Casino Royale horseshit from two weeks ago. For my purposes, as a full-collection kinda guy, I heartily approve of this weekend's promotion! Personally, I would LOOOOOOVE it if Totem would let us purchase next month's cards in advance EVERY MONTH - even without the additional discount! The additional discount is pretty sweet, though 😉 I can certainly understand, however, that Totem isn't necessarily 100% certain how many cards will be made available for purchase for the next 30 to 31 days. I'm not a fan of dangling an otherwise unobtainable card as an incentive to purchase a full month's cards. Personally, as a collector, I would accept such a promotion without the additional cherry on top. Don't get me wrong - I very much appreciate the cherry!

Here's an idea: Instead of offering a month's worth of cards to include a "Special Event" card AND a discount, why not periodically offer a full week's worth of cards with NO discount but with the inclusion of a "Special Event" card for free? I would think that would satisfy both full-collectors and more discerning collectors.

Perhaps this idea (or something similar) has been presented previously. Please forgive me if this is the case. Anyway, What d'ya think?

As a "bonus" from the scratch and sniff sh!t i have a hand full of low res crap cards i never will watch.
I don't mind special events like that for the steampunk card. No reason to buy into it if you don't want, because the card was made public two weeks later.

And i repeat my argument, if Totem wants to sell cards they should produce good ones. PERIOD.

On the other hand, i decided to never buy credits again, so i'm just here watching the ship go down and having fun on the ride while spending the last credits.
