Giving brand new users access to the beta (and not calling it a beta) may be a relatively risky strategy but what it gives is an opportunity to discover rapidly any issues that impact new users and their take on.
I would change that by changinf one word, in my opinion it is not a relatively risky strategy, it is a
very risky strategy !
There are at least two problems
1 - The risk that there may be an unsuspected but significant bug.
2 - The general ***** it brings, in particular making the term Beta Release mean even less to naive users than it currently does.
I have no problems in making a beta release available to everyone, including brand new users, but it should be something that they actively opt into using after being told the implications thereof and it should not be the default version for anybody - especially new users.
