Any arsehole who cannot tell the difference between "Wrong" and "Different" or "tuning a guitar" and deliberately mis-tuning it to create an effect, should not be allowed to comment on anything. What is the point of covering a song if you are going to do it in exactly the same style as the original - you need to put your own stamp on it. She does. I would prefer not to comment on how beautiful she is, as it is irreleveant in the context of the music, however I would love to see her on VG :-)

Bringing life to an old thread isn't really a problem. The potential difference in the posting rules could be an issue if someone doesn't bother to follow the current rules. We're quite effective at monitoring current posts, no matter how old the thread is or how long it's been since the last post in that thread. Letting a member know they've broken a rule isn't necessarily us "Jumping" on them. It's usually more of a "Hey, by the way" kinda thing. Unless they continue to ignore the rules.

Some threads, especially the old "Pic Dumping Threads" had a completely different set of rules way back when. Had Copyright Material bursting out at the seams. It lead to Totem being contacted and put on the spot. Which is exactly why we currently have Copyright Material prohibited in all categories except the "Nude Girls" category. Only a hand full of other sites agreed to allow that.

I'm not quite catching your drift, Wyld. I walk on eggshells here in the forums, as the moderators have corrected me many times. The rules are often interpreted differently by the moderators than by new users. I thought I was providing some semblance of assistance to all of you, yet one moderator in particular is holding my embilical cord in one hand, and the scissors in the other. I understand that the moderators work as a team, but when 2 or more of you are gathered - the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, and I choose my words ever so carefully so as to convey my thoughts clearly.

There is no secret, other than that which you and I share from a previous PM.

I am vigilant of my on-line safety, as I have been 'taken in' in the past, and there are stories of horendous consequences if one's personal identity is stolen online. I merely wish to caution other users of this potential outside threat, in my posts. You refer of course to the map thing, and my caution to users about GPS locating, in 'About You / About Me, I presume? or perhaps my reference to posting personal real pictures in your avatar?

There is no taboo. Just potential threat from crazy people and scammers. You folks do a fine job of identifying some shady people on your site. Some play very long, convoluted schemes, and escape early scrutiny. Can't be too careful with your life.

Seems to me that the rules, the etiquette, and the history of the forums are the deep, dark secrets, and I'm not allowed to share my knowledge of same in public. No external documentation, no history of banned participants, posts hidden and removed without explanation (and no log of same), and many features neither documented nor revealed until a user has been active for a good while. I have no secrets. But I value my privacy.

well it suits me fine in Ice Caves.fsh because I can narrow down the tweek spots to a few areas of shader code and allow people to change the whole morphology of their caves and even rate of travel via the SCN's uniform settings. so its been worthwhile. thanks Great !

Yes, I think you have the right idea. A lot of the shaders from ShaderToy and elsewhere simply hard code constants in the middle of the code and in the past if you wanted versions that just used different values for one or more of these constants you had to have differently named shader files.

In some shaders the rather better style of defining the constants as a block of const declarations or #define statements near the start of the file was used. With this style you have (hopefully) meaningful names for the constants and can see how they are related, rather than having to guess what they represent, and they are all gathered together in one place. This style makes tweaking their values somewhat easier, but still means that you need different shader files for each set of values.

By making the control parameters inputs to the shaders, using uniforms, rather than part of the shaders you can use a single more general shader instead of a whole set of specialised ones. It is no different in principle from using a subroutine for the function sin(x) rather than a set of individual constants like sin_0, sin_30, sin_45, etc.

Thank you, @Theemu, several of us have been tweeking around existing values (eg: Icecave.fsh) even within the shader code (void) and then renaming shaders to suit the SCN, and I understand now use of uniforms allows shaders to be commonly and progressively used with only the shaders preamble code being needed to be tweeked or added to,however, it still looks like we will still have to have a new shader name for every instance where we change the code terms below the preamble in order for old scenes to be backwardly compatible.

The comment about "need to return something" has nothing directly to do with the use of uniforms. Its just that any function needs to return a value (unless its return type is void) so I cover the possibility of an invalid value for an argument to the function by returning 0.0. If the function is being used properly then this particular return statement will never get executed, but it is there "just in case" to prevent undefined behaviour. In a "better" language I would log an error or raise an exception, but those are not options in the shader languages.

From my experiences so far a shader can declare uniforms which do not appear in any .scn file and they seem to get initialised to all zeros. However, if a scene file declares a uniform in a node and that does not correspond to any in the shader referenced in the same node then an error is reported.

I'm curious about one shader being used to serve many different scene files.

In the TheEmu - Move A.vsh (screencap above) code comment says
// 'invalid type, but we need to return something'
return 0.0;

Does this mean that the VGPlayer debug would show an error otherwise when uniform definitions required by individual SCN files are not applicable to ALL the uniforms declared in the shader being used ?

Or does one shader like 'TheEmu - Move A.vsh' simply provide uniform declarations to accomodate all SCNs that MAY use it, without showing a VGPlayer debug error, for those definitions not used.

I'm speaking from experience as a new user, and trying to find a way to help others avoid those pitfalls I have encountered in my learning curve.

The fine print isn't obvious to a new user as a hot key. And where did nudity come into your thoughts? I didn't bring it up, and I wasn't talking about nudity at all.

Having one's post deleted can be personally embarassing, particularly when it's your first post, and may cause annoyance in and of itself. I have noticed that new users often ignore all of the red flags and enter a new post, sometimes right next to one that is nearly identical. Inexperience maybe. If they COULDN'T enter a post into the forums before reading the TOS/EULA, this might relieve some stress on the moderators.

My first post wasn't placed in the forums in haste. I did some research - a week's worth of research - and I still got it wrong, and was embarrassed when it was pointed out to me that I had transgressed.

Did I mention anywhere in this thread that I was dedicated to finding a better way? Did I mention that I noticed plenty 'o frustration throughout the forums and that I wanted only to find a way to relieve the pressure on all party's concerned? Did I reveal any information that I promised to keep confidential?

I am merely relating items that have frustrated me, and I can't find a way without help to correct them. There is a better way. I aim to find one, and I could use all the help I can get. Are you with me, or not?

Furthermore, if a user posts a personal picture here in VirtuaGirl, and also has that same picture on another site, FaceBook perhaps, then any number of nefarious individuals may be able to make a coorelation and use that information against the user. I was not referring to anything else.

I mentioned in another thread recently that a recent university study had several individuals signing over their first born by using software freshly downloaded without reading the TOS/EULA first. Converted the IQ Fish FG017 ( SCN only ) to 2D Camera settings, & less the antialias shaders etc for @No.6 @Hombre & others. IceCave hybrid was already using 2D camera, so should be ok.

Whilst you are updating Notepad++, I think filter: was also missing from the list of Group 1 keywords.

I'm not sure if anyone actually uses this but it was in the original Totem Penthouse club multi scene.

I think you had got scale: in Group 1 twice and I overwrote one of them with filter: which fixed it for me. Its been a long while so I am not absolutely sure - you may even have amended it in the meantime.

If you want to add uniform: to @Wyldanimal's VG Scene language in Notepad ++, it is fairly easy to do.

Open Notepad++ and click on the Language menu. Select "Define your language..." and a Pop Up Window will open.

Select "VG Scene" from the "User Language" drop down menu then select the "Keywords Lists" tab.

In the "1st group" you will see all the current parameter words (id:, deny:, etc) just add "uniform:" (without the quotes) at the end of the group. Close the Pop Up window (no need to save unless you want to give it a new name).

PS - Don't ***** about the Fish - I've got lots to be playing with at the moment.:-)

That is Because when I wrote the Notepad++ .scn language file
uniform: wasn't yet part of the .scn language.

I'll have to update the Notepad++ language file to include it..

there is a slight bug in the Windows shaders.
they will allow a non decimal Integer to be used with a float.
But on the Mac, it will cause an error..

So Unless you have defined the variable to be an integer,
Always make sure to have a decimal point. the Leading or Trailing 0 is not required.
but I use it as a habit. 5.0 is the same as 5. but 5 is not.

float = single component Floating point value. 5.0 or 5.
vec2 = a 2 component floating point value 5.1, 3.4 - Two Components
vec3 = a 3 component floating point value 1.2, 5.7, 0.3 - Three Components
vec4 = a 4 component floating point value .2, -2.3, -11., 7. - Four Components

int = a single integer without a decimal point, just 3 not 3. or just -5 not -5.

if you create a variable WyldsZoom and define it as a vec4
then it Must have 4 components to it..

uniform: WyldsZoom, vec4, .2, 3.4, 7. ,.5

in the shader you can then use the swizzle
xyzw or rgba or stpq

so WyldsZoom.z is the Third value of the vec4 = 7.

vec2 MyVariable = WyldsZoom.yx is a way to take the Third and Second components from WyldsZoom and assign them as the Two Components of MyVariable

So now MyVariable = 3.4, .2

x is always component 1
y is always component 2
z is always component 3
w is always component 4

vec3 MyNewVariable = ( 1.2, 3.4, 5.6 )

MyNewVariable.w is an error because MyNewVraible is only a vec3 and does not have a w, there is no 4th component to it.

So I take it that in 'uniforms' members should always write values (or list of values) as having a decimal point
eg: 0.5 not .5
and throughout shader code generally, if you are directly tweeking any alterations of shader values, same, however only use an integer say like 0 or 1 or 10 etc. after seeing the expression 'int' used.

well before the new virtuagirl came out...i guess when i first used your program...i dont have a lot of hard drive space but maybe why...when i first used your program it took around 5 seconds to load

Can anyone please explain to me, why the db cards are of inferior quality compared to vg? Clearly, the 3k cards are not 3k, they are 1080p at most. Sorry, can't name cards at the moment, I'm on my phone. Also, the sound quality on almost all of them is *****, I don't know if this is necessary to keep the size down or something, but in most cases it sounds like you're using a 5 dollar mic. Even my headset mic has higher quality recording.

An official response would be appreciated, because if these issues are not rectified in the near future, I don't think it is worth it to purchase db cards.

@Lloydn: What older version are we talking about? Older than 2.9 like 2.8 or older? My Program does read the xml files for every show on startup. I do this already with 2 threads simultaniously to speed the process up.
But if you have your data and model folder on an external drive that also isn't fast or you haven't excluded the VG Data folder from your antivirus real time checks it might take some time with big collections to read all xml files.
But the reading of the xmls is part of the program since version 2.7 so we are talking about something already present for about 6 months.

guys i have small problem...when i click on the program it takes forever to load...like 1-2 minutes too...with the older version it never did...i never changed my computer or nothin...any reason for it?...

Fixed one problem with the Clipinfo in Paused Playlist Mode if VG played a demo or a show downloaded after starting PLM.
Then an errormessage would come up
Also i assured that the cliptimer only comes up for shows that are in your collection and downloaded as its way off otherwise.

The Use of Uniform:

In a shader it meant the Value for that Varible has already been defined.
the shader will use the value already given to that variable.

It is a way to Share variable, across the entire GLSL project.

Example: in the .SCN create a new Variable, give it a Value, and then it is Shared in the Fragment Shader to be used by one of the Math routines.


In the SCN file
This is where you Define or Create your Variable and Assign it a Type, and it's Value(s).

uniform: name, type, value(s)

uniform: WyldsZoom, float, 0.5

Here I created a new Variable and gave it the Name WyldsZoom
I defined it as a float
and gave it the value of 0.5

This new variable and value get stored in Memory.

In the Fragment Shader I would add this

uniform: WyldsZoom

That Says, Get the Variable named WyldsZoom stored in Memory

Now I can use my Variable in a math function.

instead of
x=x*0.5
y=y*0.5
where it is fixed...

I can use
x=x*WyldsZoom
y=y*WyldsZoom

and back in my .SCn file I can adjust the Value of my Variable, with out having to Edit the shader.

On the subject of 'Uniforms' in shader code, mentioned in a recent Tutorial stream post by @Theemu, I'm still not clear on the correct syntax for declaring Uniforms in scene files and how to declare them in their corresponding shader code lines.. still looking for examples of this.

In the latest shadertoy scenes we've received Eg:

all I can find is no uniform declared in its SCN and only
'uniform sampler2D iChannel0;'
being declared in the shader code.

I know that if nothing about uniforms is declared in the SCN file
by default the shader's uniform sampler2D being = iChannel0, then
iChannel0 will be assumed by the shader to be the last listed sprite in the SCN file ie: usually a clipnamesprite (model name image).Shouldn't there be a defining statement in the SCN file though about this?
Maybe explains why my Icecave experiment FG018 with 2 textures threw an error and the thing kept playing with the last listed sprite assumed to be the uniform.

Is that correct ?? (sorry about repeating the plead-cat..directed mainly to shader boffins Emu/Wyld/lezardo/others ?)

The second series of "Experiments" that I uploaded today are a quite simple series of scenes based on using a large collection of flag images. There are scenes where the flags are used ase static or moving backdrops and scenes where they are used as screens through which you can see the performances - the example above is abnormal, most of the holes are much smaller and closer together and you can see all of the girl.

Other than the flags some of these scenes use a couple of shaders. One of the shaders is my own variation of the move2.vsh vertex shader which I have made a bit more flexible and controllable from the .scn file.

A second shader is one that can be used to punch holes in an image to create a screen though which performances can be seen. Again it is quite flexible allowing the spacing, arrangement, size, shape and orientation of the holes to be controlled from the .scn file.

I have thrown in a few scenes where the performers are only seen in silhouette before or behind a flag.

Although I posted this a couple of days ago its still the article in this thread so I can still edit it.

I had made a silly spelling error in the perforations shader and the scene files that use it, so I have corrected it and at the same time slightly increased the flexibility of the shader. The updated version has just been uploaded. If you did take the previous version please note that the new version of the shader is incompatible with the old scene files due to changes in the definition of the "uniform" variables used to communicate between them.

I have added two "experiments" series to my website. The first, illustrated above, uses shaders to generate billowing clouds, smoke or fog.

I just found this topic... Been concentrating on other issues recently, and there is sooooo much about music in the forums, it is daunting to find related content...

@zzmaskers: You're right. Shes hot and talented. (Laura Cox). I couldn't believe all of the 'Talented' expert comments slagging off her style. I haven't even bothered to check out if any if those, 'EXPERTS?' had produced anything.

IMHO, If you recognise talent then you should say so and share it with others. There are too many assholes on you tube. 'Trolls'. I have been informed is the correct definition for these talentless idiots.

New Features

• Clipinfo refreshes automatically also when Playlist is paused
  

Fixes

• Bugfix for Exception when Toolbox ShowInfo Dialog was used and the the last entry in the list was selected. If then another clip from a show that was already in the list would be played this would cause an exception (found by JeB1952) Reason was that i always expected to add a new item to the list but that only the case for the clip view but not for model or show view
  
• Bugfix for Exception when the Option 'only build playlist...' was used together with the option 'save filtered playlist' Also i change the logic so that if the option 'only build playlist...' is used to create a new playlist it will always save the filtered playlist as it makes no sense otherwise.
  

Other than that some more refactoring to improve the control for the functions 'next show', 'next clip', 'replay clip' etc. Also if you now use 'replay clip' when the playlist is paused it will replay the clip that is currently played but also reactivate the playlist so it will continue with the next clip once the replay it through unless you pause again.

About the new playmode:
It works quite different than all other playmodes. Its purpose is to give you an overview over the models you have in your collection. Lets say you use the full collection as input it will select randomly one clip for each model and create a playlist that only contains these clips. So if you have 18 Models the playlist also has 18 clips. You can influence which clips by using the filters. But the rest will be done random.
It will select one show randomly and one clip that matches your filters from that show.
I came up with this playmode because sometimes i stumble over models i have completely forgotten about.
This playmode should give me a quick headsup and let me decide which models i want to get to know again.

Thanks @EverthangForever - but I feel a bit of a fraud for the last two scenes. Most of the work was done by others.

I've been doing a liitle catching up over the last week or so. I realy like the IceCave scene and its variants. Unfortunately the full screen fish is beyond my new graphics card but the smaller one works fine.

Thanks for the new shaders. Some of them are great - I'm just stuck for ideas as to where to use them. I'm having a bit of trouble with a few of them (just a black screen and/or compilation errors) and I'm trying to work out why - that's half the fun.
