the redhead again for me... Ariel 9 .. Alyssia 2

It's not so much the resolution issue, but I've noticed some of the color really seems to be off. 1454, 1455, 1461... the skin color is this strangely mottled orange, yellow and red. This isn't just a monitor problem as most of my other cards look just fine. I've also noticed that some of the newer cards have a ghosting effect, like there's not enough contrast. There were a few DB cards I probably would have purchased if it weren't for that issue.

I remember when HD started coming around on TV, and a lot of the news shows had to rethink their makeup, as the high resolution just made the anchors look garish.

No doubt about it,"Bivorbag", whichever purchasing method you choose, it's highly addictive! I have always used credits, since I only buy what interests me, but if you're looking to get the whole collection quickly, then I suppose a subscription would be the way to go.

What version are you running ???

Depending on the answer to that, it may be as simple as updating to the current version. Which is 1.1.0.84

Lately (for about the last month or so) most of the new girls I load refuse to play. When I click on one to play it just defaults to another girl instead. What can I do to remedy this?

I think Totem uses an 'unsharpen edge' filter. It reduces the 'bluescreen' effects around the ladies but has a drawback: it unsharpens the whole image... :-\

Maybe Totem can comment on my hypothesis?

I think there's definitely a drop in quality. The more I look at the cards closely, the more I feel like it's not just my eyes playing tricks. That said however, I think that part of the problem is there is a real variance in the quality in the 1400s as MrBeeKeeper mentions.

As far as I can tell, Melody Powers, Katy Angel and Vanda Lust seem to be the worst of the group. The close up shots look like they've been zoomed out to 80% or so and the edges of everything seem blurry. Armina's cards look to be a little bit better and Jessica Joy's are a little bit better still. Emily Spenser's cards and the one Cayenne Klein card that I have seem to be pretty close to the previous quality.

Anyway, hope it's straightened out soon and we can get back to the undoubted quality of the middle 700.

I started with the free version for a few months THEN Totem had a Christmas or New Years promotion gave a free of my choosing. And that was it. I bought 25 credits then I bought another 50 and said that was it. Now I'm approaching 1000 cards! Back then I would have never believed I would have every have reached 100 cards :)

In the early days I bought a few booster packs and then I tried a subscription. Now buy 50 credits at a time and pick the cards I want.

It's been great fun.

There is no noticeable drop in quality as far as I can see
Apart from some mildly dodgy lighting on one of Lilly roses cards (and they are fixing that)

Okay, it's good to know that I'm not going crazy. :)

I think that they're better than the cards before #650, but there still is a noticeable difference. I don't keep anything before 650, and I'm about to max out my DB and VG collections (this also applies to recent DB cards too by the way). Unless the quality gets back to what it was before, I might not renew my subscription. It'd also be nice if they could update these cards soon, otherwise I'll probably delete them eventually.

More than 1,000 active cards is probably enough after all, right?

Advantages of each method

Sub eventually you get them all and there a new girl every day

Individual purchase you can pick and choose (I for example occasionally buy a card that's not on the demos this happens when a girl really catches my eye (Demi) or is utterly amazing (Gwen)

Packs are ok but you may get stuff you don't want.

of course im still on less than 400 cards

oh and you may want a bigger hard drive

Im also buying the cards via the demo carousel just like @MrBeeKeeper.
If you have some patience the cards will show up on the carousel for 1 credit each once you reach Gold level.

But it depends of course, if you only want to buy favourite cards then thats the way to go in my opinion but if you want to have all cards then you should go for a subscription :)

This has been changed, yes. It was in the past that demo cards were for 1 credit for everyone, but now you have to reach the Gold to get demos for one credit from the carousel.

I have to say this - if the quality, or lack thereof, of the newer cards remains the same, I'm just going to bide my time, and wait for the higher HD quality, older cards.

I'll get some of the newer cards - because the gals are just too hot to blow off - but I'm beginning to lean towards waiting ... more and more ... for the mid-level, higher HD cards ... e.g. Marjana and Conny.

I think that we must vote with our credit purchases.

Yes the subscription type that gives you 4 cards per day it the cheapest way that will also give you them fast enough to keep you busy. This is the best bang for your buck by far and should give you a nice variety as well. If you want to get more specific the next best thing would be to buy 50 credits at a time to get the best bulk rate and then purchase cards from the carousel as they are only 1 credit per card instead of 2, and allows for a fair amount of variety especially if you turn on P2P demo downloading which greatly increases your variety. Enjoy!

I just double checked the Paradise Found card and it looks to me like it could be either milk or whitened water and that the reason it doesn't quite look right it just from the way it is recorded and then cut out. If you cut it out too tight and then add a transparency around the edge and make it too low res so it becomes pixelated as it looks to me like they did then it can make it appear to flow less smoothly and thus get this effect. This is just my best guess though, I don't know for certain. Any one else have any thoughts on this?

It's personal and it depends, what the purpose. I'm buying from the demo carousel, for example, 1 credit per card, 'cause I like to CHOOSE the Girls for my collection and not as many and as fast as possible. Not going to buy them all. Favorites only.
So it's up to you ... think first, what's your aim ...

Yes subscription is the cheapest method then. I also own all of Deskbabes cards. Taking my collection to over 2000 cards. Deskbabes also have a subscription. ;-D

Yes I've noticed it too. At first I was wondering if it was just me, but after seeing this post and other people's responses I'm starting to think it isn't just me being too picky or looking too closely. Come on Totem, lets make these new cards as high quality as they are supposed to be! I really want to be impressed, so please, impress me!

Thanks DMon1981, I mean the cheapest way to get many cards, subscription seems the most convenient method, especially if this method is recommended by a user who has 1672 cards! ;-)

Not sure what you are asking. If it is particular cards to purchase I cannot advise as I have used a subscription since I joined as I wanted every card as cheaply as possible.

If you are asking the cheapest way to collect then a subscription is the way to go.

Totally agree. The older cards look better. Also their quality level is consistent.
Some of the new releases are ok, but some of them looks significantly poorer in quality. Seems that there are some kind of lighting problems in studio or they're experimenting with different filters, who knows, anyway the appearance of different cards varies considerably.
As GOliath have noticed, the finer details are not always as sharp and clear, and Girls hair on some cards looks sometimes like cut out of something, doesn't seem like natural hair at all.

@GOliath, you're not the only one, who feels that way. I stopped buying cards for some time till now because of that instability in quality (actually don't like very much the new standard as well), but hoping that things will get better over the time ...

I figured the lotion was just that, lotion, and Marie's 'Plumber" card it was grease. Just wasn't sure if it was milk or not since they seem to fake drinking it.
