What Does Check for UPDATES Do?

I can confirm than in the Newer Downloader..
Check for updates is downloading a copy of the entire clip.
it then decides to keep the old clip or replace it with the just downloaded one.

So it takes just as long to check for updates
as it does to download the whole card.


So this should be used on an As needed basis..
And NOT used on your Entire Collection....


I ran a test using two cards.
a0001 and a0002
first I did a check for updates,
It too 2:32 seconds
then I deleted the cards and re-downloaded them
It took 2:56 seconds

I have a 22 Mbps internet.
You can see that my internet is kept pegged during the update.
but Totem speed stays at 0. ( it's not writing the data to the disk)

Then the Download is the same, my Internet is Pegged, and now Totem reports the speed because it writes it to the disk.

Yes this is true.. Now the resolution is stored in these two files.
But to get your collection back. It is not required to have the proper test in these files. Just that they exist.

The Player will know what resolution the clips are..
But the GUI might show the wrong resolution being marked.

Find one model directory with the missing files so they can be copied. For me that was A0005

This is what I did in addition to your instructions to replace the missing VHDSHOWS and VHDTRAILERS.

vghd.exe must be shutdown with the downloader.

Get into the Models directory with Command prompt.
Find one model directory with the missing files so they can be copied. For me that was A0005

DO NOT EVER UPDATE THOSE CARDS.

You can not recover them..

If you Have them.. Back them up and triple back them up.
Both the Models and Data folders of the cards...

Back these up if you have them..
and Never Update them...

a0255 to a0260 6 cards

Yes, it took a bit of Work..

In advance, remove the check from Allow Downloading after Quit.
Quit VG

I think you have to check two things..
in the Data folder, rename or Delete the DLscript.cds file.
and also rename or Delete models.lst file.

then in the Data folders of all the cards
you have to Delete the file than ends in a????.vhdaskshows

since you said your whole collection..
it best to use a command prompt to do this..
my data folder is Here:
H:\My VG\WyldAnimal\H\Data

so after I open the CMD prompt
I change to my H: drive
then I CD to my Data folder - CD = Change Directory
then I del ?????.vhdaskshows /s - delete the file ?????.vhdaskshows in all sub directories.

when you Restart VG, it will have to rebuild your collection so let it work till it's done..

All of your Downloads will be Stopped..
But you will be left with some cards Gray as they aren't completely downloaded.
If it only a hand full of a cards..
you can check each one for an update..

If it's a lot of cards..
then you may want to think about rebuilding the two missing files for each Models Folder.

you need to have these two file in each folder
a????.vhdshows
a????.vhdtrailers

the ???? gets replaced by the Card number

as you can see in my sample pic.
I tested this with 10 cards, and all 10 ended up gray.
not a big issue for me... I can easily fix 10 cards...
I'll just copy to two missing files from another card, and fix the Name of the files.

in my 3rd pic. I copied the files from card a0011 and for card a0003 I am renaming them..

Then you have to do a Rebuild All
and you're done..

Simple as that..

I made the mistake of performing a "check for updates" on my collection and after 8 hours it has only checked 110 cards.

If this thing really is NOT downloading then it should be flying through these updates which I DO NOT BELIEVE. It looks more like it is downloading the clip then comparing and then throwing it away.

I am running 1.2.0.10.

I am only seeing Connected 0.00kb/sec but the downloaded is receiving 2,000,000 bytes per minute.

At this rate for checking I will not see my collection for days or weeks.

Is there any way to reverse the 'check for updates' request for cards still waiting? I tried rebuild all but this didn't help.
