I was wondering instead of "delete from disk" can one archive a card to another disk and restore it?

Any suggestions/hints for getting this to happen?

First, open
Tools--> Folder Options:
View tab
Select "Show hidden files and folders" (click apply)

If you're on Vista, open up

C:Users%Your_login_name%AppDataRoamingvghd

On XP it'll be something like

C:Documents and Settings%Your_user_name%Application Datavghd
(but I'm not 100% sure that's the right path)

This is where the girls should "live" on your machine. you'll see two sub-directories:
Data & Models.

Models contains the actual animations, so start by finding the folder corresponding to the girl you want to back up - they're named after the (4 digit) card number prefixed by an a, so for example Aria Giovani - Halloween will be in a folder called a0480
  • COPY* this directory to wherever you want to store the girls (I back up to DVD in in case of a drive loss).

Then, if you decide to restore the girl after using "delete her from disk", simply copy this folder back into the Models directory and click "Check for Updates" on... (continued)

... the Downloads tab of your VG console.

If you're not connected to the 'net at the time, delete the file "models.lst" from the Data directory (the other folder I mentioned above), quit out of VGHD and then restart VGHD instead - it should automatically check the Models directory to see who's there and who isn't.

Well, that's what I do, there might be an easier/better way - anyone else want to correct me?

Also, you might find the following thread useful as it's got screen shots and stuff

Hope that helps, good luck!

Followed those direction, but it keeps telling me Windows encountered an error. It does not tell me what the error is. Any ideas?

When exactly do you get the error? Is it during one of the steps or after?

So you get "Windows encountered an error" when you open the folder, is that right?

Did it happen the first time you opened the folder, only after you'd copied a model folder to somewhere else or only after you'd deleted a girl and then copied her back?

Did you delete the "models.lst" file? If so are you sure you deleted the .lst file (there's also a models.vghd file)?

Did you copy the girl's folder and then use the console to delete her or delete the folder by hand?

Finally, have you tried disconnecting from the 'net, quitting Virtuagirl (right click the systray icon and select "quit"), re-starting Virtuagirl and then re-connecting to the internet?

I've tried all these steps myself (in-fact I did a complete restore of 80 girls yesterday) and they do work, so, as the late, great Douglas Adams once said, don't *****!

Edit: Wait, you haven't (re)moved the whole Models directory have you?
If you have, make a new one called Models and see if that works.
