why do new cards start with a rating of 8 ?

Good question. I actually have seen some of the cards still in Beta testing with ratings even thou these aren't even officially released yet! Must be someone in the testing team or at Totem that give pre-release ratings... not a good idea in my mind.

It's possible to rate the card even thou I don't own it!

that's how it's been. something i suggested being changed before but never happened. maybe have a number of downloaded number and only the people that have downloaded can rate.

Thought they added that function when they restricted the commenting to owners alone. Guess they never did that after all.

Got a quick answer from the Team. For some reason this is how they want it to be :) ...everyone is able to rate cards even if they don't own them.

All is fine here. I agree but since everyone can rate the cards it really doesn't matter. The rating is in my mind more or less useless anyway as it is now. If anyone can rate a card it wont reflect what people who has actually seen the card thinks but rather what people in general think of the "free stuff" as the number of people owning the cards very well might be in a minority.

Rex said awhile back that they would do a test and drop the ratings of those who don't own the cards to see if it would make a differance. Apparently it doesn't make a difference.

I found this post by Herve but have not heard anything about how the test went.

Yes, we can reset only the votes of not-owners. we will do a simulation to see if it makes differences in rating.
