What is Furlough Day? I'm from the U.S. and never heard of it. Doesn't matter to me anyway, I love a chic in uniform! I rated her a 9 but after watching her move in those stockings I can't stop wondering if I should bump her up a notch.

I was watching her video to get a sneak peak at her upcoming shows and noticed the white with black poka-dots. Poka-dots are hot!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A furlough is temporary leave of *****, especially from duty in the armed services or from a prison term.

I was in the Navy and I don't think anybody ever used that term. I assumed it was another country's holiday or something.

Graybeard,

You see, I've heard of shoreleave. It never made since to me because you're going to the shore. When your ship departs for the open sea, that should be shoreleave.

a lot of things never made sense to me in those days.....lol. After six or so months at sea it took a while to get used to the way the ground moved when you were back on land .... lol

Not many people know this but the motto of the French navy translates into " To the water,It is the hour ", which,of course, in French is "A l'eau,c'est l'heure "----Think about it !!!-----'Allo Sailor !!!Arf,Arf.

@garimiah: My fault for bringing the subject up, I suppose !! I have been extremely verbal elsewhere !! I kind of agree with you about the universal variations, but look at how you describe the language you are using ! What symbol shall we use to dsignate "English spoken here" ? A cow ? No ! A ***** ?--No that's French ! I know, how about using the flag of the country, from whence the language originated, and was named after ??After all, every other reputable, responsible, successful business organisation does it ! And no other nationality would give a damn ! Duh, Yeah !!OK !!
All I've ever asked for was that a bit of common sense, and courtesy, be used !!
Here endeth the Sermon !!

@garimiah: I have over-bent in a backwards direction, not to give the impression my views were in any way anti-American,-Well,not unless I'm taking the piss, and I'm sure you didn't take it as such. Recently, I went into an office supplies store, and there was a calculator/translator in five languages. One of the 5 was the Stars and Stripes with " English " written next to it !! So, I give up !!!
Has your B/Bulldog ***** got a big cigar in it's gob a la Winston Churchill ??lol.
I think we've taken a furlough from the Topic !!LOL

In the Navy nobody says, "Are you taking some furlough today?" What people do say is, "I'm takin' some leave in March." Or, "I'm going on 24 hour liberty."

Maybe the term is used more in other countries, but I don't recall the term ever being used (verbally) in the U.S. Navy.
