"Constant "Updates" and posting of the rules is getting to the point that it's beginning to be considered nothing but thread bumping and more Spamming. Which isn't a good thing."

>> 91hebasu, could you define 'constant' please? The rules & ladder are usually posted only once every couple of days..Thanks

Once every couple of days IS constant.

If someone needs to read the rules, they can scroll back to the latest version. A repost is not necessary. If a change to the rules is made, post the change only.

If someone wants an updated version of the ladder, it can be sent in a PM.

I have a thought on the posting of the ladder and rules.
I have no problem with the posts; it really isn't too hard to scroll...lol

I like getting updates on the ladder more than the rules.

A simple way to satisfy the people who don't want to see the info would be to refer to the page number of the last time they were posted. (ie: current ladder available on page 157...rules on page #...)

Back now to the important stuff...

Zafira!!! (should climb all the way up to Nikky before she slows down.)

Sending the rules & ladder through pm could work, or maybe even some sort of file sharing site. How about updating the ladder once a week then?

By the way, if once every couple of days is constant, then a lot of folks in the forum in general are spamming as we speak :)

Yep......Spam for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So many ways to prepare it.
;-)

I really don't see the need to post a Ladder update every week. What, seven whole challenges and we need an update ?? Come on.

Those who are regular visitors tend to keep up, or should start doing so if they don't. The ones that lose track can post a request for an update to be sent to them. Or send a request by way of a PM.

Have the challenges and post the votes.

Posting something like reminding everyone who's in the next one or a ladder update or re-posting the rules just because a challenge was finished quickly and there hasn't been any activity for several hours is bumping and spamming.

The bumping needs to stop.

Stop arguing with the moderators. 91hebasu is not talking to a "lot of folks", he is talking to you and some posters of this topic. This thread is annoying other users and is not like any other here due to the constant bumping in group.

If you and others can't understand reasons, then we might consider to intervene with a brand new set of rules for this to limit the impact on the forums. And will be discussed with the rest of the mods.

@Oquijan: I wouldn't say I was arguing with 'the moderators' (which ones do you mean?), I'm discussing things with mod 91hebasu, whom by the way I think is perfectly capable of 'modding' without your help.

We are just trying to find a way to satisfy everyone's needs if possible. I don't think your semi-***** approach ('if you don't do this, we'll have to do that') is the right approach, do you?

My Suggestion, and I think you have tossed this Idea around your self..
Would be to have a Separate thread for the Voting.. ( Daily voting in this thread only )
a Separate Thread for the Rules.. ( only updated when there is a change... )
and a Separate thread for the Current Ladder ( Only updated once a week or every other week. )

Now, If Members would NOT POST in the Rules, or Ladder threads.
You would be able to Edit and Update that Thread when needed..
BUT YOU KNOW, members are going to Post there, and then you can't edit anymore..

So that's my thought...

But I do agree with the other Mod's and the member complaints..
Re-Posting the rules, and the Ladder Status all the time is Excessive.

We worked out options to Keep this thread open before, so lets see what we can work out now..

PS: if the Updates are once a week, or every other Week, If you PM'ed me the changes, it wouldn't be too much to do..
But I wouldn't do it more frequently tan that.
Maybe even one of the Other Mods would be willing to update the thread once a week or every other.

The Very First Post OF the thread for Voting could contain the URL's to the Rules and the Current Ladder status.

Then members could just go to PAGE 1 and find it..

Close this Thread, and Start A new...

What thinks you All?

for the discussion because of Wyldanimal asked for thought's:

Communicating via PM's to get the new ladder and rules? Hour's to wait for answer's and think of time differences and what happens to the not frequently visitor...??? This seems not to be a very useful idea to me.
Seperate thread's are only an option if only the Thread-Opener has right's to edit his thread and no one else could post there. but this forum don't offer this funcionality.
Also there's no functionality to keep the ladder and rules updated on the first page of this thread. So????

what's the outcome of this discusssion?
Even without updating the ladder every couple of day's or once a week the thread would be on the top because of the voter's daily entries. so nothig changes.

I really don't understand other's can be so annoyed by seeing people having fun. No one is ***** to open this thread so what's there problem anyway???

Isn't it good for Mod's to have an active and well behaved community having fun?
Isn't it good to see for Totem that there customers having fun and visite there site daily???
Isn't that good for business???

just a few thought's from a friendly user ;)

The problem with constant posts & then regular "bumps" to keep the ladder & rules in front of the members enjoying the competition, is that it floods the Hot Topics list, thereby preventing other members to see topics that interest them.

Its called moderation and I do not mean involvement by a moderator. Some member's enjoyment can cannot come at the loss of enjoyment of others.

It was agreed long ago (despite comment otherwise) that there would be only one competition run at a time.

Yet recently I was contacted to say that as I was the last official poster on one campaign I was supposed to choose the next competitor, yet a new competition had already started.

To me that indicates that two competition could have been run in parallel which is against the spirit of the long ago agreement.

ALL the mods prefer self moderation and generally dislike imposing restrictions, but if we are not listened too, then restrictions we MUST impose as is required by our duties to Totem & all other members.

I no longer post often, but I am here on a daily basis and it sometimes seems to me, that self moderation is becoming less of a common thread, rather "its what I want that solely matters".

Not a good thing IMHO

Today's challenge

Zafira vs Lucky

Results of yesterday's challenge

Zafira wins.....

Zafira 12

Chelsea French 6

Voting starts now 12:00 P.M. Central European Summer Time (Paris Timw Zone)

Until further notice, there will be no more rules or ladder postings in this thread (at least by this member)

Also no more "starting pictures" will be posted as I believe in previous postings this also is becoming a problem.

@Cartref yes in the rules when a challenger has been defeated a new challenger is needed, the last official voter can select a new challenger, but there is a time limit before a new challenger is appointed (24 hours) This is so the active members "check in" & don't have to wait for the next challenger.

My two cents worth about posting rules and ladder. First I don't really think these have been posted excessively. I don't mind seeing the ladder updated periodically. I don't think reposting the rules is needed unless there is a change.

@WA: thanks for thinking along, looks like good options to me!

I'm still also thinking about posting rules & ladder elsewhere altogether, but don't know enough about free file hosting unfortunately. If nobody comes up with a good idea about this, I agree about posting the rules & ladders in a separate thread. One thread could be better than 2 I think, to prevent 2 different threads showing up in the 'hot topic' list.
