I think the most important thing you are missing is the fact that gifts only work for new, unregistered members. The gift thing does not work for members who are registered already which seems kinda dumb to me but that is the way I was told it works. It's the same thing that has been there, (ie) sending links to your friends, what they don't tell you is that the friend must be a non current user of VGHD.
