The ratings system is a joke. A bad joke.
Before the new system ratings didn't matter---now they do.
Ratings now directly effect each and every member.
How?
Cards rated 9.0 or higher are the only ones offered on special after the 3 new cards. This means ratings matter.

Members who do not own a card should NOT be able to rate the card.
It is ridiculous that certain members just go thru the cards and rate the girls they like 10 and the girls they don't want to be at top 1. How is bernadette, jewel or susie Q a 1? No card is a 1 or 2.
Morgane could wear a bear costume without her face or body showing and still be rated a 10 by some members.

There is no accountability for how you rate a card; and now random ratings of cards effects everyone.
You should OWN a card to rate it. Period.

This issue has been brought up in the past. I heartily agree NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO RATE A CARD WHO HAS NOT SEEN IT! I think the response from Totem was that non-card owners who rated cards were given a "lower value" than card owners. This is not good. If you want to give non card owners a chance to rate something set up a TRAILER RATING SYSTEM. Otherwise let it be only card buyers that get to rate cards. This is honest. As slayyer mentions the ratings mean a bit more now with the new system. Just set it like the commenting on cards button. It only activates after you buy a card. It should be same for the rating point too.

But of course slayyer is on the money as per usual. One minute after release, Kayla's card was rated below 8. Members were dissing her based on her looks and without seeing her show. That's just ***** and unfair.

Yeah, I agree also. How can you rate a card without seeing it? I'm sure we've all been through the buying of a card without seeing the trailer, and then been disappointed when it doesn't live up to your expectations based on the picture on the card.

Yes, viper368, I'm sure we've all experienced that disappointment. But on the other hand, I've had some pleasant surprises. I agree that someone that does not own a card should not rate it. Can you imagine a movie review written by someone that hasn't seen the movie? That would be silly. So is allowing people to rate cards they don't like.

Now where can I get that Morgane in a bear costume card?

Great idea to limit the ratings to people who actually own the cards.

I can't wait for the Morgane "dancing bear" show, looks hot!!

I came up with a preview card of Melissa's next show, the "titillated tiger". It's a 10 for sure!!

But then how will you ever see a show, if you don't like the card. Each girl would be rated only by her fans, which would result in biased ratings, and fan groups trying to reach higher scores than their rivals.

I don't agree with your analysis. I'm a collector and have all cards. True I have my favorites but the point here is that I only rate performances I have actually seen.

Rating a card based on the free stuff is like rating a film based on it's trailer!

I downloaded all the cards, watched each one and then rated them individually. The only low scores I gave were the cards/girls I can not stand to watch and ultimately deleted them...Adrienn, Alizee, Demi, Jewel, Lucie T and Mia Hilton. I gave them all extremely low scores (I believe 2 or lower), but I watched each of them prior to rating them.

well it's really VirtuaMorgane:-) Almost laughed out loud when i saw that Police Patrol is on special. Only good news is: now there aren't many Morgane cards left.

The only cards i rated low was Nadine (gave her a 5) and Jana H California Suit (rated her 1 because i wanted her from the top of the ratings. In reality she would get an 8 from me).

If I step back I can, maybe, see the business aspect of it.
Giving the cream of the crop of cards to both long term members & shorter termers too for 1 tix. ("See we give you quality even though we take away the calendar")
Introducing the new system to newbies with a splash.("Welcome to the site-look,new system, get our top rated babes for only 1 tix")
Maybe, as most introductory offers, it will run it's course and true variety will once again reign!

VirtuaMorgane isn't too bad, would like to see VirtuaAriel.

Rating girls cards to move them up or down not based on your HONEST RESPONSE TO THEIR CARD is just wrong, whether you're a newbie trailer scammer or a respected long term member!

To be a collector of virtuagirls is not a matter of determination or interest. If you pay the price (around ~1000 USD these days), you get them all. I think you are missing the point of what is fun in collecting something, but then it's your choice. But I doubt the majority of the members here are collectors like you.

If I see a nice card with a high score, I buy it. I wouldn't buy a card just to have it, and perhaps rate it, but rating is a precious resource and Totem would not have less of it for the benefit of it being somewhat more accurate. Who cares for a few points of inaccuracy? What they want is feedback so that they can produce more that sells.

As for Morgane, yes she's hot as hell, and always on top of the charts, and this can be frustrating for people who visit the site many times a day, but I think she is selling the product like no other girl. No suprise they are pushing her as hard as they can.

Today these groups of "fans" can rate every other models card to 1 in order to give their favorite a higher position... if only those who own a card could rate it this way of manipulating the score would not be possible. Thus it would give a more accurate picture of the content rather than just the name.

To give Morgane a 10 just because she's beautiful is just as wrong as giving Felina a 1 just because she's black!

Ratings should be given based on the experience of the whole content... not just based on the free stuff on the webpage!


EDIT: Note... this discussion has been around since the very beginning and to be honest I doubt Totem will ever change the rating system... It's flaw and will be so forever...

A naive way of thinking, I'd say. Ratings is a mechanism for one of nature's most important ways: those who have a lot get even more. A high score is the best advertisement a card can ever get. Giving a high score is saying: "I like this". Even if you don't buy that very card, it says that under some circumstances you would. It's a free way of letting know what you think about the card. Totem may have sell statistics, but this takes it a step further.

But I come to think of it: why are you even interested since you buy ALL cards, ratings are irrelevant for you.

The "random" special based off the rating of a girl was a bad idea. A random number selector would have a greater variety than Morgane's rotating 7. Don't get me wrong, she is hot, is why I have all her cards, but by that same logic I'd wager so does everyone else by now.

It's obvious you miss my point: To give a fair rating cards should only be rated by those that have seen the full show! This is what you PAY for... not the free sample or the free stuff on the website!

True that the system works as an advertisement tool... but, I'm sure Totem use the sales statistics to make future investments rather than polls based on free riders "judging the book by it's cover".

So... why do I even bother to share and stand up for my views here? I want for members who cannot afford to get all cards to be given a fair and educated rating based on the cards full content. It's as simple as that :)

Absolutely agree with you jununger, but after year and half discussions on the rating system - I do not expect any change. I suppose that is because "owners rate" is much lower that non-owners rate. Otherwise I don't see any reason for Totem to keep current rating system.
