Frustration as a sport

Hi, Dorsai6

Thanks for your help. The plan here is to post items that you feel might help new users in their learning curve. I've headed it up with a few items that might have helped me, and I've included a few points that I felt might have facilitated my getting up to speed more quickly, had I only known about them sooner. Points not already covered in the new user section of the forum.

Some might think this redundant. I think it has some merit. I could just run across the street and knock a puck around the ice, but this is good sport too!

I was chatting in a thread recently about deleting files not required, but can't find that topic anymore - my poor search skills mainly. In that thread, it was mentioned that certain download files *.dlmcf or something like that, could be removed if they exist as they were simply temporary download files used until the software could determine they were intact and rename them. I was having trouble with something else, and stumbled on this info. I saved a bunch of HD space in the process. It was me turning the download on and off repeatedly, compounded by a messy wireless connection in my hardware setup that caused the files to be left behind as relics.

I was hoping to get a list of those files which are added by downloading a card, but only refering to the models folder. And files someone might download into the scenes folder, or the music folder (mp3's) and such. Anything that a user might want to check for and delete to save space without affecting the performance of the software itself.

This thread might serve as a quick reference to help users who don't really want to share in the forums, but who come here for help. Kindof a research library of sorts, as an extension of the new user forum information in those sticky notes. It might reduce the multiplicity in similar questions coming down the pipe from new users all ***** by the same issue, repeatedly, ad. infinitem.

I see from your profile that this is right up your alley. You may have more thoughts of your own to post here as well. Your experience on the Mac would be welcomed. That's what it's for, my friend. Knock yourself out! ;)

Things I've learned that are important to know ...
  • when a moderator gives you instructions know that they mean well so be kind to them
  • whatever you post here in the forums can be viewed by all users forever
  • ***** is not tolerated
  • friendliness is rewarded and it's a two-way street
  • if you don't know just ask
  • often the question you post here has been answered somewhere else in the forums
  • when posting questions in the forums remember to come back for the answers
  • the term 'new user' is open to interpretation
  • bronze members (or lower) can be very experienced
  • new users to the forums can be experienced users of the software
  • long time users of the forums can be less experienced than you are
  • although the program offers regular updates, you are not obligated to install them
  • new versions may remove features that you like and want to keep
  • old versions will continue to work with all of the cards currently in your collection
  • support for the older versions will be much more difficult to obtain in the forums
  • new questions about features in older versions may ***** everyone
  • running the software for the first time after a very long absense may need a reset
  • no matter the trouble there is always a solution
  • not all features are documented
  • some features are difficult to find without help
  • some features will only appear when you increase the number or variety of cards in your collection
  • some features are hardware-dependent and won't appear if you lack some sort of extra device (dual monitors)
  • the forum is a valuable reference tool in spite of the fact that it is based on older technology
  • there are free add-ons available which overcome certain shortfalls in the progamming

Discussions for Scenes for Version 1.2.X Fullscreen Mode here

Holy crap, Beastman! I love it! I'm gonna play around with spinning the name as well now :) Is there anything we CAN'T do with this stuff???

Thanks for that and also for the extra info on 'animate.' I knew it changed your RGB colours but I wasn't sure why, till now :) I'll change that so it just goes back thru the colors in reverse order. Ie: R,G,B,G,R.

Guys, you need to check out Beast's mods to my scene. It looks awesome! Simply copy and paste his code above into my .scn file just above or just below the two clipNameSprite bits and comment out my originals //. If you prefer Beast's changes then you can delete my originals :) Be careful with the open and close brackets tho{}

Edit: (A couple of hours and tweaks later...) Beast made the names swing and they look REALLY cool!

Now I've taken the names for a multi-dimensional spin! Check this out in my, or your own code ;):

clipNameSprite {
color: 0, 0, 0
pos: -1000, -1100, 0
hotspot: 0, 0
scale: 14.0, 7.4, 0
rot: -90, 90, -90
source: clip
animate: .5 , PingPong, InOutQuad, color, 0, 0, 0.8
animate: .3 , PingPong, InOutQuad, color, 0, 0.8, 0
animate: .5 , PingPong, InOutQuad, color, 0.8, 0, 0
animate: 7.0 , PingPong, InOutQuad, rot, 360, 360, 5760
}

clipNameSprite {
color: 0, 0, 0
scale: 13.6, 7.0, 0
pos: -1000, -1090, 0
hotspot: 0, 0
rot: -90, 90, -90
opacity: 0.5
source: clip
animate: 7.0 , PingPong, InOutQuad, rot, 360, 360, 5760
}

This works on a 3D cam scene. Not sure if it will work on a 2D cam but I doubt it :( That probably needs a few more tweaks...

Edit: Trying to figure out a way to make the spins pause for at least a second or two before spinning off again. It appears that the clipNameSprite function only lasts a set amount of time and anything we add to it can't change this time duration. I've tried spinning the names faster with more than 20 times the rotation speed but it still won't pause in the middle, long enough to read the names :/

The software allows up to 5 seconds to display the names in desktop mode. Is there any way to micro control this in Fullscreen?
